If you want to understand the true value of a business card then read on:

Today with so many apps on your phone that you can just tap another phone and your data/information is transferred cross sounds like an easy low cost solution to send your company information to someone else who may be interested in you or your services. The thing about that is that an app might tell the receiver who you are and how to contact you but a card can say so much more.

To begin with, I don't give out my business card to just anyone. It's important to note that business cards cost money, and I've spent a considerable amount of time designing mine to accurately represent my business. Therefore, I only give it to individuals who have expressed an interest in my business and will value it.

For me, a business card serves as more than just a way to pass on my contact information. It reveals the type of business I run and whether or not I care about my business image. I can instantly determine if the card is overcrowded with information, if it's legible, or if it's in a difficult-to-read font that requires a magnifying glass.

Now, let me clarify that I have seen some business cards that were clearly produced with a low budget or were used to clean floors before being handed to me. The reason being that the person who gave me the card didn't understand its significance. In my humble opinion, every business that intends to do business should have a business card.

When creating a business card, it's essential to consider the recipient. For instance, I've received cards with font sizes that were too small, making it impossible to read without glasses. I've also seen cards with fonts that were too creative, making it challenging to decipher the text. To ensure that the recipient can read and understand the card, the text should be clear and in a simple-to-read format.

I've also come across miniature cards that some people think are eco-friendly, but these are usually difficult to read and don't convey a professional image. Business cards have a standard size of 2.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches high, providing sufficient space for your business name, your name, telephone number, email address, and website address. Shrinking the size of your card won't make it any easier to read or more environmentally friendly.

In summary, a business card is more than just a piece of card with your contact information. It's an introduction to your business and should convey a sense of quality, making the recipient feel that they want to do business with you. What does your card say about you and your business?
